Wanted! BC and Ontario post-secondary institutions target BC French Immersion students PDF Print E-mail

Released: November 20, 2008

Vancouver, BC:  Proving that there is French after grade 12, colleges and universities from BC and Ontario will make a pitch to more than 150 high school French Second Language (FSL) students and their parents on Wednesday, November 26 at the Holiday Inn Express Metrotown in Burnaby. Starting at 6:45pm, each post-secondary institution will have 20 minutes to woo this much sought-after school demographic.

Organized by Canadian Parents for French – BC & Yukon, the event is unique in that the five post-secondary institutions taking part are collaborating and cost-sharing to provide an overview of what students can expect to learn, what scholarships are available and what life is like on campus. The five are: Éducacentre College, BC’s only francophone college; Simon Fraser University’s Office of Francophone and Francophile Affairs; UBC’s French Department and Faculty of Education; UVIC’s Continuing Studies and French Department; and University of Ottawa’s French Immersion Studies.

In the next three years alone, more than 6,000 students will graduate with their bilingual Dogwood certificate in BC. Many are keen to continue learning in French. As a result, post-secondary French language programming is growing across Canada,
including British Columbia.

Members of the media are invited to join us.  Please RSVP to 1-866-257-7970.
