Canadian Parents for French – BC & Yukon Branch

Vancouver BC: Canadian Parents for French – BC & Yukon is a non-profit parent-lead organization representing 8,700 engaged members who volunteer in excess of 40,000 hours annually to promote French second language learning opportunities for BC and Yukon K-12 and post-secondary students. The organization is strongly encouraging all members and partner organizations to get out and vote on October 14.

“As in previous federal election years, Canadian Parents for French - BC and Yukon has surveyed candidates to gauge their support for French second language education programs in BC and the Yukon.  This year CPF had the highest response ever, a testament to the growing strength of our organization’s collective grassroots efforts. Given that close to 300,000 BC & Yukon students are learning French through French immersion, Core French, and Francophone programs the result of this election could have a significant impact on how French education in supported” stated Debra Poole, president of Canadian Parents for French - BC & Yukon Branch.

In 2005 the response rate to CPF’s questionnaire generated 34 detailed responses and 21 simple yes or no responses from every political party.  This year, the organization has received 61 detailed responses from the four major political parties – Conservative (2), Green (19), Liberal (20), and NDP (19).
