Cognizant that the audience is likely to include many who don’t speak French, the show is sure to include a decent amount of English to keep all show-comers in the loop of the action, but the music itself will transcend the language barriers, said local CPF spokesperson Calvin Thompson.
“Music is universal,” he said, adding that he was pleased to say that the group is able to offer free admission for the family-friendly show.
“This is the type of show that everyone can enjoy.”
In fact the toe-tapping, dynamic rhythm of Quebec’s traditional music is likely to have some concert-goers on their feet, driven by a foursome of vocals and instrumentation including guitar, percussion, upright bass, mandolin, and bones. Authentic to their folk roots, lead vocalist and founding member Stephane Poirier and his bandmates, Francois Dauphin, Simon LePage and Gaston Bernard, have also interwoven elements of a variety of other influences including modern jazz and Celtic sounds into their vibrant array of traditional songs and dance numbers, many of which hail from their second album “Paie la Traite”, winner of the 2007 Album of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music
Awards. The award-winning combination will hit the stage at Lester Centre of the Arts at two p.m. on Saturday, October 25. While the concert is free, organizers ask individuals and families to please consider bringing a non perishable food item for donation to the Salvation Army’s Prince Rupert food bank. Original Post |
