"We heard the group was touring in B.C. and thought it would be a great opportunity to expose Prince Rupert to bilingualism and by asking people to bring a donation of non-perishable food, we could support the local food bank," said CPF's vice president, Calvin Thompson.

Hailing from Quebec, the quartet plays authentic music with hints of influences from jazz, Celtic, American old-time and Cajun.

Much of the repertoire is traditional songs and dance tunes.

Making up the quartet are Stephane Poirier (lead vocalist, mandolin and guitar), Francois Dauphin (guitar, percussion, step dance, vocals), Gaston Bernard (fiddle, mandolin, vocal, foot tapping) and Simon LePage (stand up bass).

All the music will be in the French language but Thompson said the CPF has asked the band to offer a little bit of interpretation in English because not everyone in the audience will be able to understand French.

Music, on the other hand, is music, he added.

"Music is universal and good music is good music. The band offers a broad scope with a little bit of everything."

In 2007, the group won a Canadian Folk Music Award for its CD Paye la traite.

"The album shows a group with greater experience and confidence, reflected in arrangements that are intricate without sacrificing the inherent simplicity of style," states the band's website.
