On a beautiful sunny Saturday, I brought my family out to experience the Olympic atmosphere that I've been telling them all week.
We took the Canada Line from our home in Richmond and got off at the Yaletown Roundhouse station, where we visited Casa Italia, the Italian Pavilion. Casa Italia mostly features Italian products like chairs, skates and snowboards. We took 15 minutes to finish the tour because most areas are reserved for VIPs.
Next, we took a nice long walk around Science World, where we saw many small rock monuments called Inuksuks. I’m always amazed at how a pile of rocks can be made to balance and stand without falling over: the person who made these Inuksuks must have spent a lot of time on them.
We also passed by BC Place, the site of the opening ceremonies, on our way from Science World to Robson Street.
Arriving at Robson Street, my family and I had to stay close together because of the huge crowds. We could hardly see where we were going. But still, my family and I enjoyed the crowds because we've never seen Vancouver so lively before.
Finally, we walked to the Olympic cauldron down by the Vancouver Convention Centre. It was the first time that I'd seen the Olympic Cauldron with my own eyes – until then, it was just a picture on TV - but this time it was for real, and it was beautiful.
