My High School Celebration |

It was the turn of my old high school, Hugh McRoberts, to celebrate the Olympic Games today. So, I decided to visit and take part in the celebrations. As I walked into the school, I saw Canadian flags everywhere, and people wearing red or white tops. Students had been asked to wear Canada's national colours to show their Olympic spirit.
The ceremonies were taking place in the school's new gym. The students were all excited as they were filled the gym.
The show started with everyone standing to sing the national anthem.
During the joint opening speech by our two MCs, it was proudly announced that five members of the Canadian Olympic team were graduates of my old school. I was surprised that our school was such an athletic powerhouse.
Next, we enjoyed a performance by the McRoberts choir, which had also performed at the Richmond O Zone on the night of the Game's opening ceremonies.
After that, the school had special guest, but it wasn't a person, it was Rick Hansen's torch! I guess we got his torch because Rick is from Richmond, and he had visited our school the year before.
Then, the school's senior dance team gave an amazing performance that had the crowd shouting with joy.
Finally, the ceremonies ended with competitive games (hands free Jello eating, guess that tune and sing those lyrics) between representatives of each grade in school. Winners were to be announced at the end of the day, but I had left by then.
