September 27, 2009, 11:00am Our Lady of Lourdes Church 828 Laval Square in Maillardville, Coquitlam September 27th is the actual anniversary date of the founding of Maillardville, the first organized settlement of French-speaking in British-Columbia. A really special day is forecast for this event: 11:00 - Commemorative mass Our Lady of Lourdes Church, celebrated by archbishop Miller and Father Boisclair. Commemorating the 100 year anniversary mass in French. For the occasion, a delegation from France is coming to offer to the community the oblate cross originally worn by Father Edmond Maillard. 12:45 - Foyer Maillard's 40th anniversary Société Foyer Maillard provides bilingual services to seniors via cultural activities and health related programs. Since, its creation in 1969, Foyer Maillard continues to support the seniors in our community. 13:30 - Book lunch of Florence Debeugny - Maillardville, 100 ans et plus After achieving the well attended exhibition in February 2009, Florence Debeugny is back with strength with a unique conception of a book about Maillardville’s community. Realized in collaboration with Société francophone de Maillardville, the book is a happy medium for people to have access to the components of the exhibition. Get this unique piece of work, it’s a limited edition... “Maillardville, 100 years and beyond” captures the essence of this dynamic community through 200 black & white portraits of people who have or had a connection with Maillardville. Stories of 100 people have been added to enhance this photo book. The artist has also created a multi media piece that combines historical photos and footage with a soundtrack of music, sounds of the past and words of the present.
