Francopalooza is coming to Vancouver!
What on earth is Francopalooza ???
Francopalooza celebrates our children’s achievements in learning French, examines BC’s obsession with the French language and explores some of the issues we are confronting in French as a Second Language education in this province. February 9/10 – 17/18, 2007 is French Immersion Week – it’s time to party!
Francopalooza kicks off on Friday night with the exuberant rhythms of Doundounba (www.doundounba.ca) at a family dance. This is entertainment at its finest as the ancient arts of Guinea are brought to life on stage. Doundounba – think of world music from Africa-meets-Newfoundland kitchen party!Whether you are 4 or 94, you’ll be dancing!
On Saturday morning, speak your mind on BC’s obsession with French at a town hall. Does French matter to your community? Is your child’s education all that it can be? Are they getting the support they need? Our host will put your ire, angst and curiosity before a panel of experts. Be prepared for a lively discussion!
Over a buffet lunch, hear how becoming bilingual – or trilingual – will open a world of opportunities for your children.
Not sure how to support your child in French? Frustrated by the lack of resources available to children with learning challenges? Concerned about keeping your secondary student motivated to stay in French right through to graduation? Wondering what Intensive Core French is all about? Our afternoon parent workshop pulls it all together and offers parents tried and true strategies and resources aimed at helping your child succeed. You will have plenty of resource material to take home.
All day Saturday you can browse Le Marché, a marketplace offering French products, resources and services!
Sorry, no child-minding services will be available at Francopalooza.
On Sunday afternoon, students in the Lower Mainland will be attending a special free show of “Fast Food” performed by BC’s only French theatre company, Théâtre la Seizième. Sorry, this performance is not open to the public but please contact TLS if you would like to arrange for them to preform at your school. www.seizieme.ca.
