CONGRATULATIONS! CPF-BC & Yukon is looking forward to welcoming you on
April 29th at Kwantlen College. The campus is easily found by travelling west
on 72nd Avenue from the King George Highway (see
map). For driving directions use MapQuest or Yahoo Map. Concours d'Art Oratoire will be held in Building G which is located
adjacent to the parking lot (
see map ).
Parking fees at the University are $2.50 for all day. Please be sure someone in your
car has appropriate change, because there is no place on campus that can provide
change! The parking ticket dispensers accepts
credit cards as well as loonies
and twoonies. Allow ample time to find a parking space and locate the competition
building, G. Visitor parking stalls are on an hourly fee rather than the all day rate.
Upon arrival, please go to the Registration desk, which will be in
Building G. Please bring your $10.00 registration fee and your completed
Photo
Permission form with
you and hand it in at the Registration desk. (Please note a $25.00 administration fee will be charged to any registered student that does not attend and compete on April 29th.) You will be checked
in and given a Program and T-shirt. Please be sure
to check your competition classroom location in the Program, as well as
start time.
Opening Ceremonies begin at 9:00 a.m. in the Conference Centre and will last approximately 20 minutes. Afternoon competitors are not required to attend the morning session.
Students are expected to dress appropriately, business causal is recommended for this event.
Girls should wear a suit, dress, dress pants, dress shorts or skirt with a conservative top (no low cut tops,
bare midriffs, spaghetti straps, offensive T-shirts,
short shorts, mini mini-skirts, shorts or skirts should be mid-thigh or longer).
Boys should wear dress pants or shorts with a shirt or golf type T-shirt (no shirts with offensive sayings or pictures,
baggy or low riding pants or shorts, board shorts, etc.) Students that are dressed inappropriately will be required
to change before being allowed to particiapte.
Competitions for grades 6, 7 and 8 Francophone start at 9:30 in the classrooms indicated in
your Program, so you should make your way directly to your competition room
upon completion of the Opening Ceremonies. If the Ceremonies run overtime,
don't worry! The Room Hosts in the competition rooms will allow for entrants
to get to the competition rooms. If you are late arriving, please go to the
Registration desk and then directly to your classroom. The awards ceremony
begins at 12:30. During the morning, there may be entertainment provided in
the Conference Centre, check this site later for further details.
Competition for grades 9 to 12 and 8 Immersion will begin at 2:00 p.m. after the afternoon opening ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Awards Ceremony for
those grades is at 4:00 p.m.
Room Hosts will call the competitor's name, which are in random
order. If anyone is not present when their name is called, the Room
Host will call the name again at the end and that participant will be
allowed to proceed. Special requests, such as competing earlier in
the order of speakers, will be consideration by the Room Hosts.
Judges are volunteering their time to participate in this event.
They should be given all due respect and consideration. The judge's
decisions are final.
Individual students may be video-taped by their
family, but other students may not be video-taped without the written
consent of that student's parent/guardian. Please remember that
video-taping your child may make him/her more nervous. The same
rules/information apply to photographs. Because some categories are
very large and split in two, we may be video-taping the categories.
These tapes are not available for sale or duplication.

This information will help you to prepare for the competition.
There is a cafeteria on-site at Kwantlen which has food and beverages
and will be open that day. You may want to bring a lunch or snack as
there aren't really any restaurants within easy walking distance.
Unfortunately, this year, there is no additional funding for travel
assistance.
